18-month-old boy accidentally killed by his grandmother in Kannur

Kannur, Apr 22 (UNI) In a heartbreaking incident, an 18-month-old boy was accidentally killed by his 80-year-old grandmother while she was chopping firewood at their house at Alakode in the district on Tuesday.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Dayal, son of Vishnu and Priya, residing at Kolimala near Alakode.
The incident took place around 1700 hrs. Priya's mother Narayani (80), who is partially blind, was engaged in chopping firewood with an axe in the courtyard. The toddler was playing nearby with his elder sister and is believed to have suddenly run towards his grandmother and was accidentally struck by the axe.
Local residents rushed him to the nearby cooperative hospital at Alakode, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The body was shifted to Kannur Medical College Hospital at Pariyaram for post-mortem.
Police registered a case for unnatural death in this connection and initiated an investigation into the incident.
