Accused convicted for theft at Jamia Masjid Nowhatta

Srinagar, Apr 3 (UNI) A Court on Thursday convicted an accused for theft at Srinagar’s grand Jamia Masjid.

The Court of 3rd Additional Munsif/JMIC Srinagar convicted Irfan Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Daribal Ganderbal, for the offence under Section 303(2) BNS in a case registered at Police Station Nowhatta in January this year

On January 18, 2025, the Aquaf Jamia Committee reported the theft of cash from the donation box at Jamia Masjid Nowhatta, Srinagar. Police later registered the case and launched an investigation, which led to the identification and arrest of the accused.

The team of Nowhatta Police Station worked tirelessly to ensure that the case was charge-sheeted within the stipulated period, police spokesman said.

Today, the accused was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of Rs. 500 for the commission of the offence under Section 303(2) BNS. Additionally, the accused has been sentenced to imprisonment till the rising of the court.
