Action continues against encroachments on Nepal border

Lucknow, May 9 (UNI) A sustained campaign against illegal encroachments and unrecognised religious structures continues to intensify across Uttar Pradesh's border districts adjoining the Nepal border, official sources said here on Friday.
Sources said that special administrative drives have been launched in Pilibhit, Shravasti, Balrampur, Bahraich, Siddharth Nagar and Maharajganj to identify and remove unauthorised constructions, with strict action being taken in line with state law.
Sources said that in Shravasti, the District Magistrate reports confirm that all 102 illegal madrasas identified in the district have been sealed. "Besides, one unauthorised religious site has been served a formal notice. Of 5 tombs constructed on public land, 4 have already been acted upon, while one case remains sub judice in the High Court. Two unauthorised Eidgahs built on government land have also been demolished," they said.
Sources said that in Maharajganj, 28 illegal madrasas have faced action, and one unapproved religious structure has been removed. "Authorities have also moved against 5 tombs encroaching on public land and have flagged one unauthorised Eidgah. In Farenda tehsil, after administrative persuasion, a portion of an illegal religious site constructed on fallow land was voluntarily dismantled by the occupant," they said.
Sources said that in Bahraich, a total of 24 encroachments have been reported. "Among the 13 illegal madrasas, all have been issued notices, 5 sealed and 8 removed. Out of 8 unauthorised religious sites, 2 have been acted upon. Besides, one of two illegal tombs has been demolished, and a notice has been issued regarding an unrecognised Eidgah," they said.
Sources said that in Pilibhit, the DM confirmed one encroachment case. "A notice has been served and legal proceedings are underway," they said.
Sources said that in Balrampur, action has been initiated against all 28 identified illegal madrasas. "So far, 22 have been sealed, 5 removed and further proceedings are pending on one. Out of 10 unauthorised religious structures, 8 have been demolished, while 2 are under official notice. One illegal Eidgah has also been removed," they said.
Sources said that in Siddharth Nagar, within 10 kilometres of the Nepal border, officials have identified 22 encroachments on public land, comprising 18 madrasas and 4 religious sites. "To date, 9 madrasas have been removed and 5 sealed, with further action underway," they said.
Sources said that this sustained campaign marks a zero-tolerance approach by the Yogi government toward unlawful religious encroachments and illegal constructions, particularly in border districts.
"The administration is under clear instructions to maintain law and order while reclaiming public land and ensuring transparency in action against unauthorised establishments," they said.
