Shimla, May 9 (UNI) Taking strong note of a recent dog bite incident involving a schoolboy in Sanjouli, the Additional District Magistrate (Law & Order), Shimla, has directed the Municipal Corporation to take urgent steps to control the stray dog menace across the city.
The directive follows a complaint submitted by social activist Karam Chand Bhatia, whose son was attacked by a stray dog while returning from school.
Expressing concern over the increasing threat posed by stray dogs, especially in residential areas, historical spots, markets, roads, and narrow alleys, Bhatia urged the administration to act before a more serious tragedy occurs.
The ADM's letter, addressed to the Municipal Commissioner, notes that the presence of packs of aggressive dogs poses serious risks not only to school-going children but also to tourists and local residents.
It cites repeated complaints about dogs roaming freely in populated areas and emphasizes the need for immediate intervention.
The ADM has instructed the municipal body to make Shimla town completely free of stray dogs within 15 days. The letter warns that failure to act promptly could lead to large-scale protests and demonstrations outside the Municipal Office and in other parts of the city.
“In this regard, you are requested to get the needful done and take necessary precautionary action/steps immediately…,” the letter states.
This is not the first time Shimla residents have raised alarm over the stray dog issue. However, the ADM’s latest directive signals a more serious administrative stance, possibly triggered by the involvement of a government official's family.
