Through 'PANKH Portal' girls receiving career guidance in UP

Lucknow, May 9 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government is continuously introducing new initiatives to promote girls' education, safety, self-reliance and career development, official sources said here on Friday.
Sources said that a significant step in this direction is the launch of the 'PANKH Portal' for students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), which has emerged as a transformative digital platform symbolising the government’s commitment to empowering girls.
Sources said that developed under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan in collaboration with UNICEF, the portal is not just about inspiring dreams; it teaches the strategy to achieve them. "This initiative is a testament to how the right direction, platform, and confidence can enable girls to shape their own futures. The 'PANKH Portal' is giving wings to the aspirations of girls across UP and reinforcing the belief that “our daughters can now achieve anything," they said.
Sources said that through the PANKH Portal, students of KGBVs are not only enhancing their academic abilities but also gaining exposure to diverse career paths in defence, engineering, commerce, medicine, sports, music, painting, writing and debating. "The portal helps students make informed career choices based on their interests, boosts their self-confidence and strengthens their logical thinking and problem-solving skills, instilling the belief that we too can achieve anything'," they said.
Sources said that each upgraded KGBV now features a dedicated Career Corner managed by the warden. "At these corners, nodal teachers trained in computer science and psychology provide regular career guidance. Girls from Classes 6 to 12 register on the portal (uppankh.in) to create personal career plans, which they record in their diaries. These entries are reviewed by wardens, helping students refine their goals and build clarity and confidence in their plans," they said.
Sources said that with support from UNICEF, fifty career guidance cards have been developed and are now central to school discussions and interactions. "Creative dialogue is further encouraged through large mind-map flex boards placed in each Career Corner. The entire process is monitored systematically, from the school level to the district and state levels. Wardens, District Coordinators (Girls' Education) and Basic Education Officers submit regular progress reports, contributing to monthly reviews at the state level to ensure accountability and success," they said.
Sources said that to further improve the quality of guidance, regular online webinars and specialised training sessions are conducted for nodal teachers and wardens. "This ensures continuous professional development and better support for students in shaping their futures," they said.
Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh said, "The Yogi government’s goal is not just to educate but to guide every girl in the right direction according to her talent and potential. Through the PANKH Portal, we are shaping our daughters into strong pillars of a self-reliant India. Their flight is the future of our state."
He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state continues to focus on empowering girls through dedicated schemes like Mission Shakti, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, the establishment of ICT labs and other digital education initiatives.
"The government's message is clear, girls' education and careers are a top priority, because an empowered daughter is the foundation of an empowered state and an empowered nation," he said.
