Ahead of BTC election, Assam CM slams Congress over violence and killings in Bodoland

Guwahati, July 3 (UNI) Ahead of the forthcoming election to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today launched a scathing attack against the Congress and said that the people of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) had suffered the most during the Congress rule.
Sarma said this while addressing a massive public rally in Udalguri in BTR, an autonomous region under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, the administration of which is being run by the BTC, or Bodoland Territorial Council.
The Chief Minister was in Udalguri today to review the developmental works in five districts of the BTR, which includes Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Chirang, Baksa and Tamulpur.
“While BJP believes in the politics of peace, Congress does politics of hatred, bloodshed and violence. BTR suffered the most under Congress rule while BJP brought peace in BTR,” Sarma said on his X handle on Thursday.“This time Congress said that they will contest elections in BTR. But please remember that BTR had witnessed the most killing and politics of hatred during the Congress rule only. People suffered during the Congress rule in BTR. It is during this Congress rule that bomb explosions, killings and communal violence were common in BTR. Congress never wanted peace in BTR,” he said while addressing the rally.“In 2014, Modiji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) brought peace to BTR. What Modiji has done could have been done by the Congress too. But Congress’ politics is not based on peace, it is based on creating tension between people. Congress politics is all about bloodshed, communal tension, violence,” he added. The election to the BTC is likely to be held before October this year. The United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), is an alliance partner of the ruling BJP led dispensation at Dispur. While the alliance between the BJP and UPPL is still in force in Dispur, the saffron party, has however, made it clear that they would contest the election in BTC on its own this time.
