Los Angeles, Apr 11 (UNI) Amazon Prime Video’s all-new TV adaptation of the famous Chinese story, the ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ is now in its early stages of development.
The famous book series written by Wang Dulu in 1941 and 1942 as part of his Crane-Iron-Pentalogy, was adapted into an Oscar-winning international classic in 2000 by director Ang Lee. The other books in the series are: ‘Crane Startles Kunlun’, ‘Precious Sword, Golden Hairpin’, ‘Sword Force, Pearl Shine’, and ‘Iron Knight, Silver Vase’.
The official logline for the upcoming project on Prime Video states: “Amidst stunning landscapes and spectacular action, ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ follows Shu Lien and Mu Bai, two star-crossed warriors, as they struggle between forbidden love and the pull of modernity — caught between preserving their way of life or embracing a future together.”
Jason Ning, best known for ‘Lucifer’, ‘The Brother Sun’ is writing and will be the executive producer alongside Ron Moore (‘Outlander’, ‘Battlestar Galactica’). Both have overall deals at Sony, which released ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ through its Sony Pictures Classics label and owns rights to the Crane-Iron books.
As per the entertainment website Deadline, Ning and Moore (via his Tall Ship Productions) will be the executive producers along with Johnny Levin, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, Maril Davis of Talc Ship Productions, and Hong Wang and Qin Wang for the Wang Dulu estate.
