Amit Shah chairs key meetings on security and development in J&K

Srinagar, Apr 8 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired two high-level meetings in Jammu and Kashmir—one to assess the security situation and another to review the progress of ongoing development projects in the Union Territory.

Shah concluded his three-day visit to J&K, his first since last year’s assembly elections, in which the National Conference, led by Omar Abdullah, secured a sweeping victory. He had arrived in Jammu on Sunday evening.

The Home Minister first chaired a development review meeting at Raj Bhavan, which was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and senior government officials. The meeting lasted over two hours and focused on accelerating developmental initiatives across sectors.

Following the meeting, Shah said the Narendra Modi government is working with an unwavering resolve towards building a developed J&K.
“Reviewed the development projects in Jammu & Kashmir today. The Modi govt is working with an unwavering resolve towards building a developed J&K. The tireless efforts of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji are ushering in a new era of prosperity for every citizen through development and welfare initiatives. J&K is accelerating on the path of growth in every sector,” Shah said in a post on X.
Later, Shah chaired a crucial security review meeting.
Lt. Governor Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, General officer Commanding Northern Command Lt. General Suchindra Kumar, Corps Commander posted in J&K, Jammu and Kashmir chief secretary, J&K Director General of Police, chiefs of paramilitary forces, including BSF and CRPF, among others attended the meeting.
However, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was not part of this meeting.
The security meeting was held amid a spike in militant activity in the Jammu region, where four policemen were killed in an encounter with militants in March.
