Srinagar, Mar 30 (UNI) The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid (AAJM) on Sunday called upon the authorities not to interfere or put up obstacles but instead ensure the smooth conduct of Eid congregational prayers at Eidgah ground in the city.
Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramazan, will be celebrated either on Monday or Tuesday depending on the sighting of the crescent on Sunday.
In a statement, the AAJM expressed hope that the authorities will not create any interference or obstacles and will facilitate the smooth conduct of Eid prayers at Eidgah, respecting the religious sentiments and rights of the people.
It also strongly urged that no attempt should be made to disallow the prayers, as witnessed on Shab-e-Qadr and Jumat-ul-Vida, which caused widespread resentment and hurt among the people.
“It is expected that such actions will not be repeated on this sacred occasion,” the Anjuman said.
Authorities barred prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on Shab-e-Qadr, one of the most auspicious nights of the Islamic calendar.
The restrictions were also extended to Friday congregational prayers on Jumat-ul-Vida, the final Friday of the holy month of Ramzan. Kashmir’s chief cleric and Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house detention on Friday.
Meanwhile, Anjuman announced the Eid-ul-Fitr congregational prayers will be offered at the Eidgah here at 10 am.
The Anjuman informed that the Eid sermon will be delivered by Mirwaiz Umar at 9 am.
In preparation, Mirwaiz visited Eidgah Srinagar to personally review the arrangements and ground conditions.
“After inspecting the site, he expressed satisfaction that, with the prevailing dry weather, the Eid congregation can be held smoothly,” the AAJM statement said.
The AAJM has also urged the J&K Waqf Board to ensure all necessary arrangements for the occasion and appealed to the people to participate in large numbers, maintaining discipline and decorum
“In case of inclement weather, prayer will be offered at Jama Masjid Srinagar,” AAJM said. UNI MJR SSP
