BJP govt betrays Constitution: Akhilesh

Lucknow, April 1 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has betrayed the Constitution and the country's independence.

In a statement issued here, Akhilesh said, "The BJP has betrayed the values of the freedom movement. The BJP is playing with the sacrifices made by our national heroes for independence. It is spreading hatred in society. It is conspiring to create a rift in society by discriminating.

He said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, who fought for the country's independence, had dreamt of a constitutional rule of law.

The SP chief said, "Baba Saheb Ambedkar envisioned a new India in the Constitution, inspired social justice, but the BJP and its affiliated organisations are constantly challenging the Constitution made by Baba Saheb. The BJP governments are also bent on ending the reservation system through outsourcing and contracts. That is why the BJP raises questions on the Constitution."

He said that the BJP governments are not working by the Constitution. "PDA is being discriminated against. The rights of the PDA are being snatched away. There is an attempt to crush freedom of expression. Intolerance is being shown towards positive suggestions. India's culture is known for its acceptance and tolerance," he said.

Akhilesh said that the constitution and democracy are in danger from the BJP and its government. "There is a big challenge to save the values of the constitution, democracy, and the freedom movement from this government. The policies of the BJP are dangerous for social harmony and unity. The BJP government is using constitutional institutions as its subsidiary organisations. It is weakening constitutional institutions. Whereas the SP is fighting to save the values of democracy, Baba Saheb's constitution and freedom movement," he said.

He said that the SP is fighting for social unity, integrity, social justice and prosperity of all sections. "The SP has raised the demand for a caste census so that all sections of society can get their rights and respect based on population. The SP is committed to the constitution, democracy, and freedom of expression. The campaign will continue at every level to strengthen it. PDA is the cornerstone of this struggle. Only through this will the monopolistic power of the BJP in the country and state come to an end," he said.
