Jagdalpur, May 1 (UNI) The Inspector General of Police (IG) for Bastar region in Chhattisgarh, Sundarraj P, has said that the ongoing anti-Naxal operation in the Karengutta hills for the past nine days aims to liberate the area from the control of the banned Maoist organisation and make the land safe for its original inhabitants.
He revealed that the outcome of these operations is not limited to the number of Maoists killed or arms recovered. The objective of the operation is to free the area from the Maoist organisation's control and restore safety for the native residents.
The Maoists have planted several IEDs along the hills, rivers, and valleys in the sacred land of Bastar, warning the local tribal population not to enter their own land. Sundarraj questioned who gave the Maoists the right to indulge in such heinous acts and harm innocent civilians, animals, and other living beings.
The martyrdom of innocent tribal woman Sushila Sodi, who was killed in a Maoist IED explosion while grazing cattle in the Usur area of Bijapur district on March 30, 2025, and the sacrifices of many children, women, men, and security personnel who have fallen victim to Maoist violence, have strengthened our resolve, he said.
The Chhattisgarh state, neighboring state governments, and central government agencies are working together to advance the campaign for peace and hope in the Bastar region. Due to security reasons, detailed information about the operation cannot be shared until its completion.
The Mission Sankalp aims to end the six-decade-old problem of Left-wing extremism in Bastar and other affected areas of the country, he added.
