AP: 206.29 RKM of Automatic Block Signalling commissioned

Vijayawada, Mar 25 (UNI) In a ground-breaking achievement, the Vijayawada Division of South-Central Railway in collaboration with the Projects Organization Unit of Vijayawada, has successfully commissioned 206.29 Route Kilometres (RKm) of Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) during the financial year 2024-25.
This milestone cements the Vijayawada Division’s reputation as a pioneer in implementing Automatic Block Signalling systems.
On the evening of March 23, ABS was successfully commissioned across 29.67 RKm between key sections of Samalkot, Pithapuram, Gollaprolu, and Ravikampadu, completing the Division’s total ABS commissioning to 206.29 RKm for the fiscal year.
This remarkable achievement encompasses an impressive 416.23 Track Kilometres (RKm multiplied by the number of tracks) in the northern section of Vijayawada Division. The implementation of ABS ensures smoother railway operations and significantly reduces congestion along the Vijayawada–Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada–Gudur routes.
Automatic Block Signalling is an advanced railway signalling system that enhances operational efficiency by dividing tracks into sections where signals automatically adjust based on train presence. Key benefits include CH. P R Vittal, Chief Signalling & Telecommunication Engineer (Projects-III), lauded Viswanath Reddy, Dy. CSTE (Projects-III), Vijayawada, and the Projects Unit for successfully executing this ambitious task with precision, dedication, and meticulous planning.
He highlighted that alongside the commissioning, extensive ABS training was imparted to 514 staff members, including Station Masters, ASMs, Gatemen, and S&T personnel. CSTE thanked Narendra A Patil, Divisional Railway Manager, the Engineering and Operating Department of Vijayawada Division, SCR for facilitating traffic blocks and supporting the novel initiative.
Narendra A Patil, Divisional Railway Manager expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the remarkable accomplishment, emphasising that this advanced signalling system will not only enhance operational efficiency but also significantly improve passenger safety. He also noted that several additional kilometres of ABS will be commissioned in the crucial Vijayawada–Gudur section in the coming months.
