Itanagar, May 7 (UNI) In a major step toward enhancing disaster preparedness and community resilience, a large-scale civil defence mock drill was successfully conducted across multiple strategic locations in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district on Wednesday.
The exercise, held as part of the nationwide emergency preparedness exercise, aimed to evaluate and strengthen the region’s readiness to effectively respond to potential emergencies, including natural and man-made disasters.
The mock drill was executed at four key sites - Khandro Drowa Zangmo District Hospital, ANM School, LD Public School, and Masang Dung Rhuemey at Old Market, Tawang. Supervised by the district administration, the drill showcased coordinated response strategies and operational efficiency among key stakeholders.
The exercise witnessed enthusiastic participation from key stakeholders including the District Police, Fire Brigade, Health Department, Indian Army, SSB, ITBP, and NDRF, alongside NCC cadets, NSS volunteers from Dorjee Khandu Govt College, members of the District BJP Unit, Market Welfare Committees, and the District Students’ Union.
In-charge Deputy Commissioner of Tawang, Sangey Wangmu Mosobi addressed the gathering prior to the drill, applauding their enthusiastic participation. Stressing the significance of preparedness, the DC said, “Though this is a mock drill, we must remain vigilant and take it seriously to ensure we are prepared for real-life emergencies. Our objective is to minimize damage to life and property by preparing for the worst with our best efforts.”
Superintendent of Police Dr DW Thongon briefed participants on the simulated scenario, which involved an airstrike on a key building in the Old Market.
He outlined the roles and response structure, including the incident command system, marshaling areas, makeshift hospital, district emergency control room, safe house, and communication protocols.
