Arunachal: One dead, another rescued in ring well mishap in Karsingsa

Itanagar, May 22 (UNI) A tragic incident occurred at Tapik Colony, Karsingsa near Banderdewa in Arunachal Pradesh, on Thursday afternoon when two young men were trapped inside a ring well, resulting in one fatality, police said.
Naharlagun Superintendent of Police (SP) Mihin Gambo said that the Banderdewa Police Station received a distress call at around 1.54 pm, following which a police team rushed to the spot to conduct a rescue operation.
The victims, identified as Riya Tago (23), son of Riya Kano, and Sosar John (23), son of Poli Kaha—both residents of Tapik Colony—were found unconscious inside a ring well belonging to Riya Kano.
With the help of local residents, the police team carried out a rescue operation, using ropes and supplying oxygen to retrieve the individuals. Both were promptly shifted to TRIHMS, Naharlagun for urgent medical attention.
While Sosar John is currently in stable condition, Riya Tago tragically succumbed despite all efforts to save him, informed SP Gambo.
He said that initial investigations suggest that Riya Tago had entered the well for cleaning purposes and lost consciousness due to lack of oxygen. Sosar John reportedly descended into the well in a brave attempt to rescue his friend, only to lose consciousness himself.
An unnatural death (UD) case has been registered at Banderdewa Police Station, and further inquiry is underway to ascertain the complete circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident, the SP said.
