Bandi Sanjay calls for strict crackdown on drug sales, praises girl child empowerment initiatives

Karimnagar (Telangana), Mar 15 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has raised concerns over the growing menace of drug sales, emphasising that children are being exploited to facilitate the racket.
He called for a strict crackdown on drug dealers and urged the state government to grant full freedom to the police to handle the issue effectively.
Speaking at the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' program at the TNGO hall in Karimnagar, Bandi Sanjay joined District Collector Pamela Satpathi, Commissioner Alam, former MLA Bodige Shobha, and others.
Sanjay highlighted the success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 2015 initiative 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,' which has shifted societal attitudes from viewing daughters as burdens to celebrating their birth as a guarantee of prosperity.
"Today, we celebrate the birth of girls with initiatives like 'Bheti Janmotsav' and 'Selfie with Daughters'. A house without girls is incomplete," said Sanjay. He praised the achievements of girls in education and employment, citing District Collector Pamela Satpathi as an example of excellence.
During the event, Bandi Sanjay distributed bicycles to 100 students and announced that all government school students moving from class 9 to class 10 will be provided bicycles through MP Lads funds.
He further pledged to provide washing machines to all hostels using CSR funds and committed to improving facilities at Karimnagar Sports School through CSR or MP Lads funding.
Highlighting Modi's initiatives for women and child welfare, Sanjay praised schemes like Mission Indradhanush, which has improved maternal and infant health by promoting timely vaccinations. He also mentioned the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, which provides financial assistance to pregnant and lactating mothers, and the Kishori Shakti Yojana, which supports education and healthcare for girls aged 11-18.
Expressing concern over the rising drug menace, Sanjay condemned the involvement of children in drug sales and stressed the need for urgent and strict action.
"The authorities must take an iron-fist approach to eradicate the drug menace from society," he said.
He urged all stakeholders to support the police in achieving a drug-free society, emphasising that this issue should rise above politics.
