Bengal Governor sends special report to Amit Shah on Murshidabad, stresses on deployment of Central Armed Forces

Kolkata, May 4 (UNI) West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose in a special report to the Union Home

Ministry has recommended the deployment of Central Armed Forces in the border district of Murshidabad based on his visit there in the aftermath of the anti-Waqf bill violence that left three people dead, with scores of shops and homes looted, police vehicles were torched and hundreds were forced to flee their homes, official sources said.

Raj Bhavan sources said the Governor submitted the special report to Union Home Minister Amit Shah based on his observations there and his conversations with the victims as well as the kin of Harogobinda Das (72) and his son Chandan Das (41), who were lynched by a mob.

Bose visited Malda and Murshidabad on April 18-19, a week after the bloody violence took place in

Murshidabad on April 11 and 12.

After his visit, the Governor told reporters that the people have demanded deployment of permanent BSF camps in all vulnerable areas of Murshidabad.

“To go by the history of political violence that the State is prone to and from the spillover effect that the

Murshidabad violence had over other districts in the State, may I suggest that the Government of India consider the Constitutional options not only to put a check on the current situation but also to generate confidence of people in the Rule of Law,” Bose said in his report to the Union Home Minister.

The Governor has also noted the demands of the affected people for permanent deployment of the Border Security Force (BSF) in the vulnerable areas since the district has an international border with

Bangladesh.

Sources said the Governor's report to the Centre was delayed due to his health as he fell sick

immediately after returning from Murshidabad and was admitted to the Military Command Hospital and Apollo Hospitals.

He also wrote on the need to check infiltration from Bangladesh and fencing of the International Border and regular assessment of the situation.

"During the political turmoil in Bangladesh in 2024, there were reports of increasing attempts of

migration from Bangladesh to West Bengal,” Bose said.
