Bengaluru road rage: IAF officer's conduct is deeply disrespectful - Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Apr 22 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday expressed strong disapproval over an incident in CV Raman Nagar here in which an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer allegedly assaulted a local resident and made disparaging remarks about the state and its people.

Taking to social media, Siddaramaiah said Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose had assaulted one Vikas Kumar, a Kannadiga, following a minor vehicle-related issue, and later posted "unwarranted and derogatory" comments about Karnataka and Kannadigas on social media platforms.

"This conduct is deeply disrespectful and inflammatory," the Chief Minister said, adding that while Kannadigas take pride in their language and culture, they are neither parochial nor intolerant.

Reiterating Karnataka’s legacy of inclusivity, he said the state has always welcomed people from across the country and treated them with respect, regardless of origin. "The inclusive spirit of this land is well documented in history," Siddaramaiah remarked.

He also criticised certain national media outlets for what he termed the "amplification of a baseless accusation" that had unfairly maligned the image of the state and caused anguish among Kannadigas.

Appealing for peace and restraint, Siddaramaiah urged citizens not to succumb to provocation or emotional responses. "Let us uphold the law and maintain peace. Karnataka is governed by a government elected by the people of this land, and it stands firmly for justice and dignity," he said.

The Chief Minister confirmed that he had directed the Bengaluru Police Commissioner to initiate appropriate legal action against all individuals involved in the incident, "irrespective of their position or rank."

"The State Government is treating this matter with utmost seriousness and is committed to ensuring justice for the victim," he added.
