Telangana setting national benchmarks in farmer welfare and inclusive development: TPCC President

Nizamabad, Apr 22 (UNI) Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud strongly asserted that Telangana has emerged as a role model for the entire country in farmer welfare and inclusive governance.
Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, he highlighted the Congress government’s pro-farmer stance and declared that the state's developmental schemes are being widely discussed and emulated across the nation.
“Telangana has become a compass for the country. Our initiatives—from fine rice distribution to massive loan waivers—are now points of reference for others,” he said.
Goud took a sharp dig at the previous BRS regime, blaming it for ten years of farmer neglect and stalled development. “During BRS rule, farmers were pushed to despair. We have not forgotten the tragic sacrifices made by farmers in their fields, the lathi charges, or the handcuffs. BRS leaders, who once supported Narendra Modi’s anti-farmer black laws, now shed crocodile tears,” he remarked.
Under Congress, Telangana has waived farm loans worth Rs 20,616.89 crore, benefiting over 25 lakh farmers. “No state in independent India has done what Telangana has done—fine rice is being distributed to ensure no one sleeps hungry, regardless of class,” Goud noted.
He also credited Rahul Gandhi for inspiring Telangana’s landmark caste survey and emphasised the Congress party’s commitment to social justice, including a 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs).
He announced that farmers' festival conferences are being held to educate cultivators on emerging agri-technologies and cost-effective methods to boost productivity.
“Our aim is to help farmers earn more with less. The main focus of these conferences is to usher in a new era of agricultural modernisation,” he stated.
Goud also brought attention to irrigation projects like Nizamsagar and Sriramsagar, calling for the urgent removal of silt to rejuvenate lakhs of acres. “If desilted, Nizamsagar alone can irrigate an additional one lakh acres,” he claimed, adding that ministers have responded positively to these proposals.
Touching on local development, Goud said a modern indoor stadium will soon be constructed in Nizamabad, a district historically known for producing top sports talent. He also signalled plans to revive the sugarcane industry, once a hallmark of the region.
In a symbolic gesture reflecting the government’s inclusive approach, Goud participated in a joint meal at the home of Dalit beneficiary Narender Lakshmi, who has been positively impacted by the fine rice scheme.
“Telangana’s progress is people-centric, inclusive, and farmer-first,” Goud concluded, asserting that the Congress government is laying a solid foundation for long-term growth and justice.
