Bhupendra Gupta appointed CMD of SJVNL for interim period

Shimla, May 3(UNI) The Union Ministry of Power in an order gave Bhupendra Gupta, director (technical) of THDC India Limited, the additional charge of chairman and managing director (CMD) of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL). The order, dated May 2, 2025, takes effect from May 1.
This temporary appointment comes in anticipation of final approval from the appointments committee of the cabinet. Gupta will hold the dual charge for a period of three months or until a full-time CMD is appointed, whichever is earlier. The decision was issued by the Ministry of Power from Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi, and signed by director Santosh Kumar.
The order has been circulated to top officials, including the CMD of NHPC Ltd., all board members of SJVN, the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh, and relevant secretaries.
Gupta’s appointment to lead SJVNL, a key public sector hydropower company headquartered in Shimla, comes at a crucial time as the company continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio and infrastructure projects across the country and abroad.
The move is seen as part of an interim arrangement while the selection of a regular CMD is under process. Officials believe Gupta’s experience at THDCIL, another major player in the hydropower sector, will help maintain momentum at SJVNL and ensure continuity in decision-making and project execution.
