BJP launches day-and-night protest against price rise

Bengaluru, Apr 2 (UNI) The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday began a 24-hour protest at Freedom Park here against the rising prices of essential commodities and services, holding the Congress government responsible for the increased financial burden on the ordinary people.
Senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa, BJP State President Vijayendra Yediyurappa, and other legislators and former legislators participated in the protest, which began at noon and is scheduled to continue until noon on Thursday.
The party also released a ‘chargesheet’ listing hikes in about 50 essential items and services over the past two years under the Congress rule.
Setting the tone for the agitation, Yediyurappa asserted that the BJP would persist in its fight until the government rolled back the price hikes. The party also announced a statewide campaign, ‘Janakrosha Yatre’, beginning on April 7 to further highlight the issue.
Accusing the Congress government of financial mismanagement, Yediyurappa alleged that it had burdened the people with price increases on essential commodities and services. He remarked that the government had no moral right to continue in office and called upon BJP leaders and workers to ensure its downfall.
Leading the protest, Vijayendra termed the Congress dispensation a “government of guaranteed price hikes” and highlighted the rising costs of petrol, diesel, milk, and service charges in government hospitals. He warned that the recent Rs 2 per litre hike in diesel prices, effective Tuesday night, would have a cascading effect on other commodities.
Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, R Ashok, accused the government of ‘looting’ people through price hikes to finance its guarantee schemes. He further alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had lost control over the administration, claiming that the government was in a state of paralysis.
Notably, the JD(S), the BJP’s political ally in Karnataka, was absent from the protest. While BJP leaders maintained that it was a party-led initiative, sources indicated that the JD(S) was not invited, as the BJP aimed to mobilise its cadre ahead of local body elections. However, party leaders downplayed any rift, asserting that the alliance remained intact. UNI BDN SSP
