Kerala: Army Medical Corps Day celebrated

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 3 (UNI) The Indian Army Medical Corps (IAMC) celebrated its 261st Raising Day at Pangode Military Station here on Thursday.
On April three, 1943, the IAMC came into existence as a homogenous Corps of officers and men on the pattern of Royal Army Medical Corps by the amalgamation of Indian Medical Services (IMS), Indian Medical Department (IMD) and Indian Hospital Corps (IHC).
The IAMC was re-designated as Army Medical Corps (AMC) on January 26, 1950. The Presidential Colours to the Corps on its raising day on April three, 1966 by Dr S Radhakrishnan, the then President of India.
The AMC has played a crucial role in the country’s military campaigns, providing medical support to our brave soldiers deployed in diverse and challenging environments from the icy glaciers of Siachen to the scorching deserts of Rajasthan.
AMC’s expertise extends beyond India’s borders with participation in UN Peacekeeping Missions, worldwide providing medical aid and humanitarian assistance in crisis ridden areas, earning internal acclaim.
During national disasters and humanitarian crises, AMC teams are deployed to provide medical relief and aid.
The AMC’s motto, “Sarve Santu Niramaya” (let all be free from illness) reflects its commitment to saving lives and providing the best medical care to the Indian Army.
Brigadier Anurag Upadhyaya, Station Commander, Pangode Military Station, was the Chief Guest of the event.
Air Commodore Sachin S Souche, Principal Medical Officer of Southern Air Command, was a special invitee of this event.
Colonel R A Shetty, Commanding Officer, Military Hospital, Senior Officers and all ranks of AMC attended the function.
Brigadier Upadhyaya greeted the best wishes to all the members of AMC.
Air Cmde Souche graced the occasion by cutting the cake along with Captain Vineeth R S.
The Army Medical Corps celebrates its raising day every year on April three.
