Varadevi Award for Prof. GN Panicker

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 3 (UNI) Prof. GN Panicker has bagged the Varadevi Award instituted by Dr P C Nair Foundation for his comprehensive contribution to Malayalam literature.
Poet and lyricist K. Jayakumar will present the award at a function to be held here on April 10. The award comprises Rs. 25,000, a citation and a sculpture.
Panicker, who was noted as a story writer, novelist, critic and teacher, won the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award for his collection of stories Neerurakalude Geetham in 1982.
His major works include Nammudeyum Avarudeyum, Ormakalude Turuthil Ninn, Manase Nee Sakshi, Kariveppila, Etho Chila Swapnangalil, Ini Yatra Paranjidatte, Oru Divasam Oru Yugam.
He has received the Karur Award, Ulloor Memorial Award by Thiruvananthapuram Tamil Sangam, and the P. Kesavadev Literary Award for his comprehensive contribution in literature.
Prof. Panicker also served as a lecturer in government colleges in Chittoor, Thalassery, Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram for twenty years.
The award presentation ceremony will be presided over by Dr. M.G. Sasibhushan, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Dr. P.C. Nair Foundation.
Prof. Nanthiyath Gopalakrishnan, Foundation Chairman P. Balachandran Nair, and Foundation Secretary K. Rajagopal will attend the function.
The foundation is named after Dr. P.C. Nair, a noted novelist, short story writer, playwright, and translator who was also a professor of economics at colleges in the United States. UNI DS SSP
