Bollywood mourns the loss of veteran actor Manoj Kumar

Mumbai, Apr 4 (UNI) Country's premier entertainment industry Bollywood on Friday mourned the demise of legendary actor-director Manoj Kumar, with leading personalities saluting his art for its "unwavering patriotism", and lauding him as the "lion" of Indian cinema.
Soon after the news of Manoj Kumar's death early in the morning at the Kokilaben Hospital here became public, tributes and condolence messages started pouring in from biggies of the Hindi film fraternity.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ajay Devgn expressed his sadness, recalling his family's long association with Manoj Kumar. Devgn said Manoj Kumar "was not just a cinematic icon - he was a personal milestone in my family’s journey. He gave my father, Veeru Devgan, his very first break as an action director in Roti Kapda Aur Makaan."
"From there, their collaboration continued all the way to Kranti, creating moments that are now part of Indian cinema’s golden history. Manoj ji’s films - Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, Shor, Kranti, they weren’t just films…they were national emotions.
"His creative genius, unwavering patriotism, and storytelling depth set a benchmark that very few have matched. As Indian cinema bids farewell to its Bharat Kumar - a storyteller, a patriot, and a legend. I also wish to say thank you for shaping my father’s journey and for inspiring countless storytellers like me. Your legacy, Manoj ji, is eternal," he posted.
The Family Man actor Manoj Bajpayee called Manoj Kumar a pillar of Hindi cinema. "His art celebrated the spirit of India like no other".
Actor Jackie Shroff condoled Manoj Kumar's passing through folded hand and heartbreak emoji.
Director Madhur Bhandarkar shared on his X handle some nostalgic photos from his meetings with Manoj Kumar. He remembered the actor's immense contribution to Indian cinema, paying tribute to his career.
He wrote, “I am saddened by the passing of the legendary actor & filmmaker, Manoj Kumar Sir, I had the privilege of interacting with him at many occasions, and he was truly an icon of Indian cinema."
Bhandarkar said Manoj Kumar's storytelling and song picturisations in his films inspired national pride and would resonate for generations.
Actor Akshay Kumar said he learned from him the importance of love and pride for one's country. Manoj Kumar had once praised Akshay Kumar, calling him his successor in portraying patriotism on screen. “I grew up learning from him that there’s no emotion like love and pride for our country. And if we actors won’t take the lead in showing this emotion, who will? Such a fine person, and one of the biggest assets of our fraternity. RIP Manoj Sir. Om Shanti,” Akshay tweeted. UNI XC SSP
