BRS Chief KCR did injustice to Telangana: Congress MP Chamala Kiran

Hyderabad, June 20 (UNI) Congress MP Chamala Kiran launched a scathing attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), accusing the party and its leaders of politicising the sensitive issue of water and doing grave injustice to Telangana during their tenure.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan, here today, Kiran alleged that former minister Harish Rao is now attempting to shift the blame onto KCR, making him appear as the villain in the eyes of the public.

“BRS leaders politicised the word 'water' instead of addressing the real issues. Their lack of basic knowledge is reflected in how they handled irrigation projects,” he said.

Referring to the structural issues in the Kaleshwaram project, Kiran said, “The collapse of Kaleshwaram has exposed everything. The people of Telangana now fully understand the issue of water mismanagement under BRS rule. Kaleshwaram turned into ‘Kuleshwaram’ due to KCR’s ignorance.”

He criticised KCR’s interactions with former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, stating, “KCR met Jagan four times and ended up giving away Telangana’s rightful share of water. It is KCR who donated Telangana’s water to Andhra Pradesh.”

Kiran also slammed Harish Rao’s “arrogance” and questioned his monopoly over the water discourse.

“Harish thinks no one understands the water issue except him and his uncle. He should remember that river waters are not his jagir,” Kiran said. “He is more angry than informed. While BRS keeps shouting about the Godavari waters, why are they silent on the Krishna waters?”

He alleged that the seeds of the current water dispute were sown when Harish Rao was irrigation minister, and said the Congress government, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is showing genuine commitment.
“Revanth Reddy has shown that he is willing to fight—he has pledged to approach the Supreme Court if the Centre does not address the Banakacharla issue,” he said.

Kiran also criticised the BRS for walking out of the recent all-party meeting where a unanimous resolution on Banakacharla was to be passed.

“Instead of standing with the state, BRS leaders chose political theatrics. They tried to loot the state, and that’s why the people of Telangana rejected them,” he said.

“We’ve been given the people's mandate not because of basic slogans, but because we have ethics,” he added.
