Shillong, Apr 18 (UNI) A high-level sector commander-level coordination meeting was held between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the BGB Border Outpost (BOP) Bijoypur in Bangladesh on Thursday, a BSF official said on Friday.
The BSF delegation was led by Lalit Mohan Sharma, DIG, Sector HQ BSF Tura, while Colonel Sarker Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, Sector Commander of BGB Mymensingh Sector, led the BGB delegates. Battalion commanders and staff officers from both forces also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, issues such as trans-border crime, illegal infiltration, real-time information sharing, and other matters related to effective border management were discussed between the two sides.
“Emphasis was placed on enhancing bilateral cooperation, jointly combating illegal cross-border activities, and preventing unauthorized movement along the border areas,” a BSF official said.
Infiltration of Bangladesh nationals has been a major worry for the BSF although the Indian border guards are maintaining a strict vigil along the international border. Several of these Bangladeshi nationals, along with Indian touts, were nabbed by the BSF and Meghalaya police.
Meghalaya shares a 444-km border with Bangladesh, part of which is porous, hilly, unfenced, and prone to frequent infiltration.
Both the BSF and BGB commanders acknowledged the necessity of addressing border-related concerns through regular dialogue and cooperation.
The bilateral meeting emphasised that the BSF-BGB needs to work closely so that mutual trust is maintained and there is operational coordination, peace, and security along the India-Bangladesh border.
