Kolkata, Apr 28 (UNI) Nearly five days after Purnam Sahu was detained by Pak Rangers for accidentally crossing the border, wife of the BSF constable Rajini Sahu left her home in Rishra on Monday, and travelled to Ferozepur in Punjab to seek updates from senior officials on efforts to secure her husband's return.
Speaking to the reporters before heading for the airport with her seven-year-old son Arab, Rajini who is a few months pregnant said, “Neither the Ministry of Home Affairs nor the BSF has been able to provide any information about my husband. It has been six days. All I know is that he is imprisoned in Pakistan. I will go and speak to the officials. If necessary, I will knock on the doors of Delhi."
Purnam, a constable of the Border Security Force's 24th Battalion stationed in Ferozepur, Pathankot, mistakenly crossed into Pakistan’s Punjab province on Wednesday afternoon. He was captured by Pakistan Rangers while resting under a tree on the Pakistan side,
Although the BSF has assured the Sahu family that every effort is being made to secure Purnam's release, they continue to live in fear amid the worsening India-Pakistan relations following Tuesday’s deadly terror attack on Indian tourists in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives.
“They (the BSF) keep saying he is fine. But he is not in India, he is in an enemy country. How can I not worry? I know the whole nation is thinking about my husband, but I am not getting any information. That’s why, even in this condition, I have to leave home. I am getting no updates; if I had even a little confirmation that he was truly safe, I wouldn't have travelled in this state. I wouldn’t have stepped out in such a situation," Rajini told the media.
The pregnant woman, along with her son and three other relatives, is scheduled to fly to Chandigarh before continuing their journey to Ferozepur, a town near the India-Pakistan border.
Indian and Pakistani border forces held a flag meeting to negotiate Mr. Sahu's release, officials said Thursday night, but the family remains without further updates.
