Chhattisgarh: Female Naxalite killed in police encounter

Jagdalpur, May 6 (UNI) A uniformed female Naxalite with a bounty of Rs eight lakh was killed in an alleged encounter between police and Naxalites in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.
In a separate incident, Naxalites allegedly murdered a sub-sarpanch.

The killed Naxalite has been identified as a member of the PLGA Battalion No 1. The encounter took place when a team of District Reserve Police Force, Special Task Force, Central Security Force, and COBRA battalion launched an anti-Naxalite operation in the jungles of Bijapur district.

After the encounter, the body of the uniformed female Naxalite was recovered along with a 303 rifle. According to police, the possibility of more Naxalites being killed cannot be ruled out.

In a significant development, security forces have been conducting an intensive anti-Naxalite operation in the area for the past 15 days, during which hundreds of Naxalite hideouts and bunkers have been destroyed, and thousands of kilograms of explosives and other materials have been seized.

Meanwhile, Naxalites murdered a sub-sarpanch in the Sukum district, accusing him of being a police informer.

Sukma Sub-Divisional Officer Manish informed that Naxalites in plain clothes arrived at the residence of Muchaki Rama, the sub-sarpanch of Tarlaguda village, who resided in Benpalli village under Jageragunda police station.
They took Muchaki out of the house and killed him with a sharp-edged weapon. The incident has created a sense of fear in the area.

A case has been registered at Jageragunda police station and an investigation is underway.

Kashmiri journalist detained for 'instigating secessionist sentiment' on social media

Srinagar, May 6 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing on Tuesday detained a Kashmiri journalist, accusing him of “posting extremist content on social media.”

Police said Hilal Mir, a resident of Bemina Srinagar was detained as he "used to disseminate extremist or distorted content with an intention to disturb peace and promote disaffection and secessionist ideology and present India in a bad shape.”

Police statement didn’t mention Mir as a journalist.
Mir, an independent reporter, has previously worked with media organsations including Hindustan Times and Srinagar based newspapers. He also freelanced for Anadolu Agency, TRT and Huffpost.
