Chhattisgarh: Professor arrested for allegedly forcing students to perform namaaz during NSS camp

Bilaspur, May 1 (UNI) Chhattisgarh police arrested a professor from Guru Ghasidas Central University in Bilaspur district early Thursday morning. The professor, Dilip Jha, was allegedly involved in a controversy where students were forced to perform namaaz during a National Service Scheme (NSS) camp.

According to reports, the incident occurred during a seven-day NSS camp held at Shivtarai in Kota area from March 26 to April 1.
On March 31, the day of Eid, the professor and team leaders allegedly gathered all students and made them perform namaaz, promising certificates in return.

Some students who returned from the camp complained to the university management, leading to widespread protests from Hindu organisations. The Koni police registered a case and handed over the investigation to the Kota police.

The Kota police team arrested Professor Dilip Jha from his home early Thursday morning and are interrogating him. Other accused professors include Dr. Madhulika Singh, Dr. Jyoti Verma, Dr. Neeraj Kumari, Dr. Prashant Vaishnav, Dr. Sooryabhan Singh, and Dr. Basant Kumar, as well as team core leader Ayushman Choudhary.

The police are searching for the other accused individuals involved in the case. The investigation is ongoing.
