Dalits "unsafe" under BJP rule: Ajay Rai

Amethi (UP), Apr 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Pradeshik Congress Committee (UPPCC) president Ajay Rai on Tuesday alleged that Dalits are not safe during the tenure of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
After the murder of a Dalit youth accused of molestation in Amethi, Rai, who came to express condolences to the victim's family, said that Dalits are constantly facing injustice during the tenure of the Yogi Adityanath government. "Wherever injustice is being done to Dalits, the Congress is always seen standing with them," he said.
He said that a Dalit was burnt alive by pouring petrol on him in Prayagraj. "Dalits are being tortured in Azamgarh and Rampur," he said.
The Congress state president also raised questions on the programme organised by the BJP government on the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and said that Baba Saheb will be truly respected only when there is prosperity in the families of Dalits.
He said, "If Dalits are being tortured, then it will be considered an insult to Baba Saheb. All the Congress workers are standing with the Dalits under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. We will make every possible effort to get them justice."
Rai met the family members of the deceased and assured them of getting every possible justice and help. The victim's family informed Ajay Rai about their problems.
It may be noted that on Monday evening, Shivam Kori, a resident of Kalyanpur, Jamo police station area, who was working on a poultry farm, was murdered by goons by slitting his throat. Rai had come to express condolences to the victim's family.
