Srinagar, Apr 4 (UNI) Amid the rising friction between the elected government and the Lt Governor, the ruling alliance in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday urged New Delhi not to push them to the wall and undermine the authority of the government headed by Omar Abdullah.
The ruling alliance of Jammu and Kashmir political parties also cautioned against misinterpreting their silence and cooperation as weakness.
The warning came during a crucial meeting of the legislature party, chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and attended by senior alliance leaders.
The meeting was held amid the first faceoff between the Omar government and Lt Governor over the recent transfers of 48 officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS).
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday wrote to the Home Minister over these transfers, saying that the order was issued by the LG "without legal backing" and violating the Reorganization Act.
The alliance meeting deliberated on the issue and passed two significant resolutions.
After the meeting NC chief spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq said the two resolutions were passed during the meeting. The first resolution condemned the Waqf Amendment Bill. He termed the bill "anti-minority", asserting that it targets Muslims and undermines minority rights in the country.
The second resolution emphasized the need to honour the mandate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir
“Any disregard for the voter’s verdict would be an insult to the people of J&K,” he said.
However, Sadiq issued a strong caution to New Delhi, urging it not to misread the alliance’s approach.
“Do not mistake our silence for weakness,” he warned.
“Our cooperation and coordination with the Government of India and the Lieutenant Governor should not be taken for granted. We are striving to run this government with love and responsibility. But let me make it clear — do not push us to the wall. While we remain committed to constructive coordination between the Centre, the LG administration, and the elected government here, that should never be seen as a sign of weakness,” Sadiq asserted
Congress leader and MLA Bandipora Nizam Bhat urged for deliberation with the Centre and Raj Bhawan on sensitive political matters, while warning that “moles here or there” could be working to destabilize the peace and political processes.
“There is absolute unanimity within the alliance,” Bhat said. “Sensitive issues will be dealt with through deliberation with both Delhi and the Raj Bhawan,” he said.
“We want to convey that there can be moles here or there who want to destabilize peace, the political process, and even undermine democratic institutions,” he added
The Congress leader reiterated its commitment to democracy and emphasized that the J&K legislature, backed by the people’s mandate, remains the most credible and acceptable forum for resolving matters, second only to the Parliament.
