Dreaded criminal killed in joint operation by UPSTF, Jharkhand police in Jamshedpur

Lucknow, Mar 30 (UNI) A contract killer and a member of mafia Mukhtar Ansari gang was killed in a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police and Jharkhand Police in Jamshedpur, an official spokesman said here on Sunday.
The spokesman said that UPSTF Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dharmesh Kumar Shahi was seriously injured in the encounter and has been admitted to the hospital.
He said that late on Saturday night during a joint operation by STF UP and Jharkhand Police in Govindpur area of East Singhbhum district of Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), dreaded criminal Anuj Kanaujia was injured in the encounter, "Anuj, who had committed serious crimes like murder, robbery, dacoity and worked as contract killer for Mukhtar Ansari and other gangs, died during treatment," he said.
The spokesman said that during intelligence collection, the UPSTF team received information that Anuj Kanaujia, who carried a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh on his arrest, was hiding in East Singhbhum (Jamshedpur) district of Jharkhand and was plotting to kill witnesses and lawyers of the cases registered against him.
He said that earlier, Anuj, along with his associates, had killed those who had testified against him and his gang, lawyers in these cases, and police personnel engaged in their security at the behest of Mukhtar Ansari. "During intelligence gathering, it was found that Anuj was hiding with his gang members in Bhumihar Mansion of Amaltas City under the Govindpuri police station area and is running his gang from there," he said.
The spokesman said that acting on the intelligence, report the STF team along with the team of ATS Jharkhand Ranchi, cordoned off the Amaltas City Bhumihar Mansion late on Saturday night and tried to arrest the accused. "On being challenged the miscreants present there attacked the police team with indiscriminate firing and bombs to kill them," he said.
He said that DSP of UPSTF Dharmesh Kumar Shahi was seriously injured in the firing and bomb attacks by the miscreants. "In retaliatory firing, a miscreant later identified as Anuj Kanaujia, who was firing at the police team, was seriously injured. The injured was declared dead by the team of doctors who arrived at the spot," he said.
The spokesman said that Anuj had become synonymous with terror in UP for the last 25 years. "He was a notorious and dreaded criminal who used to kill for money and was a contract killer. More than two dozen cases of heinous crimes, including murder, robbery, attempt to murder, and extortion are registered against him," he said.
