EB CID seizes 180 kg ganja worth Rs 18 lakh in Rameswaram coast, three nabbed

Chennai, May 10 (UNI) The Enforcement Bureau Crime Investigation Department
(EB CID) Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) wing of the Tamil Nadu police have seized
180 kg of ganja worth Rs 18 lakh at Rameswaram coast and arrested three people
in this connection.
A release from EB-CID here today said the CIU Chennai acting on information
that ganja was being smuggled to Sri Lanka through Vethalai North Seashore of
Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district, reached the spot and made the seizure.
Based on the information, an operation was launched to develop this tip.The CIU
Team headed by Ms T. Anbarasi, Inspector of Police achieved a major breakthrough
and proceeded to Vethalai, Rameswaram and secured one accused R.Satheeswaran
(20) of Ramanathapuram on Friday.
On the basis of information disclosed by the accused, the CIU Team seized 180 kg
of Ganja, worth Rs.18 lakh,from thorny bushes near Vaigai Nagar Railway Tracks
said to be smuggled to Sri Lanka.
In this connection, two more accused S.Kamesh (25) and K. Vinoth Kannan (35)
also from Ramanathapuram were arrested.
During the interrogation, it is ascertained that king-pin accused Sasiand Gopi of
Vethalai, who was absconding, procured the ganja from Northern States and
transported to Vethalai, Rameswaram for smuggling it to Sri Lanka through boat.
In this connection, the NIB CID, Ramanathapuram Unit registered a case and
are investigating to unearth the entire chain of accused involved in this drug
peddling.
Dr. A. Amalraj, Additional Director General of Police, Crime and Enforcement,
Chennai appreciated the efforts of team for this successful operation.
