Fight with IAF officer: Bengaluru biker out on bail

Bengaluru, Apr 22 (UNI) In a dramatic turn in the high-profile Bengaluru road rage incident, biker Vikas Kumar, who was earlier arrested following an altercation with a serving Indian Air Force officer, has been released on bail, his lawyer Advocate Ajay Kumar confirmed on Tuesday.
Addressing mediapersons, advocate Kumar demanded the arrest of the Wing Commander Vikramanas Shiladitya Bose involved in the case, alleging that serious charges had been levelled against the officer.
"The Wing Commander has to be arrested. He has been charged with attempt to murder, and a case under section 309 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been filed against him," the counsel stated.
The lawyer further claimed that the officer has absconded and is currently in Kolkata. "He (the Wing Commander) has fled to Kolkata," Kumar alleged.
The incident, which sparked a heated public debate, occurred last week in Bengaluru’s HAL area. Initial videos and accounts suggested a violent confrontation between the two individuals, with both sides lodging complaints.
The incident occurred near Gopalan Grand Mall in CV Raman Nagar yesterday around 6:30 am, as Bose was being driven by his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Das, to the airport for a scheduled surgery in Kolkata.
In an online video statement, Bose described how a motorcyclist aggressively intercepted their vehicle, hurled abuses in Kannada, and struck him on the head with a key, causing substantial bleeding. He further claimed that the attacker then attempted to smash their car’s windshield with a stone before assaulting him again. According to Bose, bystanders appeared either passive or supportive of the aggressor.
Bose also expressed his frustration with the law enforcement response, stating that when he approached the nearest police station for help, he received no immediate assistance. “If the system fails me again, I may be forced to take matters into my own hands to protect my family,” he warned, calling for swift action from the authorities.
Bengaluru East Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) D Devaraj clarified that the incident was a case of road rage, not a regional or linguistic issue. "This is a straightforward case of road rage, which, unfortunately, is a common occurrence in Bengaluru. It was an avoidable situation for both parties involved," Devaraj said.
According to the police, the confrontation escalated after Squadron Leader Das objected to Kumar’s reckless driving. What began as a verbal exchange quickly turned physical. Video footage of the incident reportedly shows several local youths intervening to de-escalate the situation.
