Former President Ram Nath Kovind releases Bandaru Dattatreya’s Autobiography

Hyderabad, June 8 (UNI) Former President of India Ram Nath Kovind launched the autobiography of Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, titled “Prajala Kathe Naa Atmakatha” (The People’s Story is My Autobiography), at a grand event held at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Speaking at the event, Bandaru Dattatreya attributed his journey and growth to the guidance of several key individuals. He said, “I am what I am today because of Manohar Shinde. The RSS is my life, my soul, my everything. V Rama Rao brought me into politics and guided me. Indrasena Reddy has also supported me throughout.” Emphasising the purpose of politics, he said, “Politics is not a career or business. It is a responsibility to serve society, especially the poor.”
Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Verma described the autobiography not merely as a personal memoir but as a symbol of the political and social changes in India over the past six decades.
He praised Dattatreya’s work with leaders like Vajpayee and Advani and said his service in every role he undertook made a meaningful impact. “Through the Alay Balay initiative, he brought together people from across the political spectrum. His life proves that power should be used to serve, not for name or prestige,” he added.
The event was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Telugu states’ Chief Ministers N Chandrababu Naidu and A. Revanth Reddy, former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Andhra Pradesh Governor Abdul Nazeer, Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Tripura Governor N Indrasena Reddy, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, former Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana, and Andhra Pradesh Minister Satyakumar.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, speaking at the launch, praised Dattatreya for maintaining a deep bond with the people despite holding several positions. He said, “His journey from Gouliguda Galli to the Governor of Haryana is truly inspiring. Dattatreya is the perfect example of a leader without enemies, like Atal Bihari Vajpayee was at the national level.” The CM credited Dattatreya as one of the few leaders whom people remembered in times of difficulty, along with the late PJR. He said the current government would draw inspiration from their legacy.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu hailed Dattatreya as the epitome of a true gentleman and a secular leader who united communities through initiatives like Alay Balay.
“He never had enemies, was above party lines, and lived an ideal political life. He persistently wrote to governments on public issues and always stood by Hyderabad’s people,” he said.
Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu emphasised values in politics, highlighting that Dattatreya upheld ethics, honesty, and civility. He said that political criticism should remain constructive and dignified, adding that those who indulge in personal attacks should be countered through democratic means.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy offered a personal tribute, crediting Dattatreya for his political grooming and support. “He held my hand and led me into politics.
I am proud to have represented the Secunderabad constituency after him,” he said.
Reddy also recounted travelling across Hyderabad with Dattatreya in the 1980s and participating in Seva Bharati activities with him. He described Dattatreya as a leader who worked tirelessly for party growth and served with grace in all positions he held—be it as an MP, Union Minister, or Governor.
The event was a tribute to Dattatreya’s long-standing contributions to public life and his commitment to inclusive politics and social service. Leaders across party lines called his life and work an enduring source of inspiration for future generations of political leadership.
