Indian Army distributes free artificial limbs

Chennai, June 8 (UNI) Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, Army Commander South Western Command, who is also the Colonel of The Madras Regiment presented artificial limbs to deserving persons under the project Walk Again" organised jointly by The Rotary Club Coimbatore and the Rotary Club of Trichur, on Sunday.
He applauded the humanitarian efforts of the organisation where a total of 500 "Artificial Limbs" are being provided to the deserving beneficiaries in various districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
The General Officer appreciated the drive undertaken to identify and screen the potential beneficiaries with the help of Medical departments, Panchayat organisations etc, the way loose ends were tied up to conduct medical camps in all places for taking measurement, under the supervision and guidance of Orthopedic Specialists, Physiotherapists and expert technicians from the Coimbatore Midtown Limb Centre, manufacturing the custom made limbs for each beneficiary in the best professional standards and finally the fitting, and proper ‘gait’ training to the beneficiaries by the specialist Doctors (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) and technical team to assist them to walk with their new limbs.
He said that the lives of all beneficiaries will change as they start walking again. They will have a better life and can become earning members in their families. Their own attitude, the attitude of family members and the society towards them will totally change once the limbs are fitted and they start gaining self-confidence and taking care of themselves in a much better way.
General Manjinder Singh also felicitated the veteran achievers of the Indian Army during the function for their contribution to the society and stated that the Madras regiment is one of the largest, finest and the oldest regiments of the Indian Army.
The troops of the regiment hail from the five southern states of India and their bravery and martial lineage is second to none, when it comes to the nation's safety and security. The same was gallantly displayed during "Operation Sindoor".
He lauded the contribution of the veteran fraternity and people of the states to come forward and contribute to the society in nation building.
