Grant loan waiver to farmers before sowing season: MPCC chief

Mumbai, Apr 2 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Harshavardhan Sapkal on Wednesday demanded to grant loan waiver to farmers before sowing season.
Addressing a press conference here, he said that the Grand Alliance had promised loan waivers for farmers and an increase in financial aid for women from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100.
However, they have now changed their stance, issuing an order to repay loans before March 31, he said and pointed that this sudden reversal suggests that the leaders of the Grand Alliance are suffering from a 'Ghajini' syndrome.
Sapkal demanded that if the Mahayuti government has credibility, secure a special package from the Centre.
"Farmers must receive loan waiver before the sowing season. If the so-called 'Triple Engine' government has credibility, it should secure a special package from the central government," he challenged.
He remarked that the budget session of the state assembly was wrapped up without making any significant decisions. Lofty speeches were delivered, but they seem to have forgotten their own manifesto, he retorted.
The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers acted like stage performers, but ultimately, their generosity turned out to be hollow, he said in a jab.
"Instead of addressing fundamental public issues, they dug up Aurangzeb’s grave. The Grand Alliance government has completely ignored crucial matters such as unemployment, loan waiver for farmers and fair prices for agricultural produce. The government has deliberately sidestepped these pressing issues," he added.
