Haryana: Govt takes action against six officers in an illegal mining case

Chandigarh, May 6 (UNI) Taking strict cognizance of illegal mining activities, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed chargesheets to be filed against six officers of the Mining Department in an illegal mining case in Nuh district. He has also directed action against staff from the Panchayat and Forest Departments found involved in the case.
An official spokesperson said that a complaint was received regarding the extraction of mining material beyond the permitted limit in a mining lease between November 2011 and January 2025 in village Rawa of Ferozepur Jhirka tehsil, Nuh district.
The Department of Mines and Geology conducted a detailed investigation and found that illegal mining had indeed taken place.
Taking strict cognizance, the CM directed that six officers of the department be chargesheeted.
He said that the officers who have been chargesheeted include Assistant Mining Officer RS Thakran, and Mining Officers Bhupender Singh, BD Yadav, Rajender Prasad, Anil Kumar-2, and Anil Atwal.

Kashmiri journalist detained for 'instigating secessionist sentiment' on social media

Srinagar, May 6 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing on Tuesday detained a Kashmiri journalist, accusing him of “posting extremist content on social media.”

Police said Hilal Mir, a resident of Bemina Srinagar was detained as he "used to disseminate extremist or distorted content with an intention to disturb peace and promote disaffection and secessionist ideology and present India in a bad shape.”

Police statement didn’t mention Mir as a journalist.
Mir, an independent reporter, has previously worked with media organsations including Hindustan Times and Srinagar based newspapers. He also freelanced for Anadolu Agency, TRT and Huffpost.
