Mumbai, May 12 (UNI) In a relief for Maharashtra Water Resources Minister and senior BJP leader Girish Mahajan, the Bombay High Court has recently ordered to delete six videos allegedly defaming him, which were uploaded by two YouTubers, both of whom are journalists.
Single-judge Justice Arif Doctor in its order on May eight said that videos were “prima facie defamatory and restrained journalists Anil Thatte and Shyam Giri, who own YouTube channels - Anil Gaganbhedi Thatte and Mudda from uploading any more such videos or posts that would be defamatory against Mahajan.
The judge further said, “The statements made by defendants in the videos as discerned from the transcripts are in my prima facie view per se defamatory.”
The order was passed while hearing a defamation suit filed by Mahajan against one Anil Thatte and one more person claiming that six videos were uploaded between April one and April 14, 2025, contain a series of false and damaging allegations.
Representing Mahajan, senior counsel Ravi Kadam told the bench that the offending videos were "gravely affecting Mahajan's reputation and goodwill."
Kadam highlighted the fact that these videos have been widely circulated and viewed by thousands of individuals, thereby exacerbating the damage caused to his client's reputation.
