Heat returns to Himachal, Una crosses 40°C again

Shimla, May 14 (UNI) After a brief spell of pleasant and cool weather, Himachal Pradesh witnessed a fresh surge in daytime temperatures on Wednesday, with the mercury climbing above normal across several districts.
Una was once again the hottest place in the state, recording a scorching 40.2 degrees Celsius, marking a return of intense summer conditions in the lower hills.
Earlier this week, much of the state had enjoyed relatively mild weather. However, the temperature trend reversed today, with hot and dry conditions returning to dominate the plains and mid-hill regions.
According to the Meteorological Centre Shimla, there was no rainfall recorded anywhere in the state between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM, leading to clear skies and strong solar radiation.
Shimla, the state capital and a popular tourist destination, recorded a maximum temperature of 26.2°C, which was nearly two degrees above normal.
Other hill stations such as Manali recorded 26.4°C, while Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district registered 22.3°C. Kufri and Narkanda remained among the coolest spots at 20.2°C each, while Reckong Peo stood at 26.7°C and Barmaur at 24.3°C. In the higher reaches, Tabo recorded 21.4°C.
Meanwhile, temperatures remained significantly above normal in many major towns. Hamirpur recorded 38.5°C, Bilaspur 38.1°C, Kangra 36.8°C, Sundernagar 36.4°C, Mandi 35.8°C, Bhuntar 35.3°C, and Nahan 34.3°C. Solan, another mid-hill town, stood at 32.0°C, while Dharamshala reported 32.1°C. Tourist towns like Kasauli recorded 29.9°C.
While the higher hill stations continued to offer some respite from the heat, the overall picture points toward a rise in mercury across the state.
Experts warn that the prevailing dry and warm conditions could increase the risk of dehydration, forest fires, and heat-related health concerns.
With no significant rainfall in the forecast, the Meteorological Department has advised residents and tourists to remain cautious and stay hydrated during the peak hours of the day. UNI ML SSP
