Himachal Cong leader gets bail in loan case amid political storm

Shimla, Aprl 24 (UNI) In a relief, Congress Sewa Dal spokesperson Yudh Chand Bains and his son Harish were granted regular bail today by the Himachal Pradesh High Court in the high-profile Kangra Cooperative Bank (KCC) loan case.
Justice Rakesh Kainthla confirmed the interim protection granted earlier, marking a major setback for the state's Congress government that had initiated the prosecution against its important leader of Mandi district.
The case, involving alleged misappropriation of Rs. 20 crore in bank loans meant for a hotel project, has been mired in political controversy since its inception.
Bains, who has consistently labeled the case as political vendetta, made headlines during interrogation by leveling explosive allegations against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. He claimed the CM sought to appropriate his land for political favours, though these allegations remain unsubstantiated.
Prosecution agency stated before the court that it would require custody of Bains as it had documents and records that he had misused loan amounts against the condition imposed on him by the KCC bank in convince with some bank official.
Defence counsel pleaded his client not guilty and stated that he was being harassed.
Legal observers note the court's decision reflects procedural considerations rather than a judgment on the case's merits. The bail order comes with standard conditions, including travel restrictions and continued cooperation with investigators.
The ruling has intensified the ongoing factional feud within the state Congress, with Bains' supporters celebrating the decision as vindication, while government sources maintain their case remains strong. Political analysts suggest this development could further destabilize the already divided state unit ahead of crucial electoral battles.
As the Vigilance Department prepares its chargesheet, all eyes remain on whether this legal battle will escalate into a full-blown political crisis for the Sukhu administration.
