HP registered warms and rain deficient March 2025: IMD

Shimla, Apr 1(UNI) Himachal Pradesh experienced unusually high temperatures and a significant rainfall deficit in March 2025 with Una recording the highest maximum temperature of 33.6°C—marking an intense start to the summer season.
The state received only 75.6 mm of rainfall against the normal 113.4 mm, a deficiency of 38 per cent, the Shimla Met Office incharge said here on Tuesday.
Most districts faced below-normal rainfall, with Una suffering the highest deficit at 62%, followed by Chamba (58%) and Lahaul-Spiti (43%). Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kinnaur, and Solan also recorded deficits ranging between 38% and 43%. Shimla witnessed a marginal 2% shortfall, while Sirmaur saw a 29% dip. In contrast, Kullu received 17% excess rainfall, and Mandi recorded 5% above normal.
The mercury soared across the state, with Dhaula Kuan and Sundernagar recording 32.7°C and 31.0°C, respectively. Kangra, Nahan, and Mandi also experienced temperatures above 29°C. However, higher-altitude regions like Kalpa (18.3°C) and Keylong (12.7°C) remained cooler. Shimla and Manali stayed pleasant at 23.0°C and 23.1°C, respectively.
Meteorologists attribute the erratic weather to shifting climate patterns, warning of potential water shortages and agricultural stress if the deficit persists. Farmers have been advised to adopt water-efficient practices as pre-monsoon showers remain uncertain.
With summer intensifying, the state braces for hotter days ahead, while authorities monitor reservoir levels and forest fire risks.
