Municipal bodies in UP record 44.5 pc increase in revenue collection

Lucknow, April 2 (UNI) The urban municipal bodies of Uttar Pradesh collected a total revenue of Rs 5,568 crore in the financial year 2024-25, registering a growth of 44.5 percent, official sources said here on Wednesday.
Sources said that the 17 municipal corporations under the Urban Development Department collected a total revenue of Rs 4,586 crore, 11 percent more than the target of Rs 4,140 crore.
"The revenue growth of small towns was higher than that of big cities. Mathura recorded a growth of 106 percent and Jhansi 85 percent," they said.
Data from all 762 state urban local bodies, including municipal corporations, municipal councils, and nagar panchayats, show a consistent upward trend in revenue collection over the last four years.
Principal Secretary Urban Development Amrit Abhijat said, "Financial independence is the cornerstone of urban governance reform. The more revenue local bodies earn, the more central grants they will get. This will improve urban infrastructure and civic services."
He said, "The increase in revenue is making municipal bodies self-reliant, which will lead to better urban amenities in the future." UNI AB SSP
