Earlier, AIMIM Chief Asasuddin Owaisi tore the copy of the Bill while taking part in the debate and called the legislation "unconstitutional"
He said that the bill goes against the constitutional provision of equality of all religions.
“Today we heard the Home Minister saying the Board and the Council is separate from Islam. If that is true, then there is no need for this law. You should just make a statutory body. This bill is a grave violation of Article 26,” he added.
“Following the passing of this amendment, only ancient temples will be under protection, not the ancient mosques,” Owaisi added.
Jagdambika Pal, who had headed the Joint Parliamentary Committee formed to scrutinise the bill, slammed Owaisi for tearing up the document.
He said while Owaisi called the Bill "unconstitutional," tearing up the Bill is actually an "unconstitutional act."
Pal, a BJP member, said he was glad and thankful to the party for making him the JPC chief.
He also said that if BJP wanted then they could have passed the Bill, but still decided to refer this to the JPC and tried to have the deliberation with other party members. UNI JA SSP
