Israeli airstrike kills militant in Lebanon: Army

Jerusalem, Apr 22 (UNI) Israel's military said on Tuesday it carried out an airstrike in Lebanon, killing a militant affiliated with Jamaa Islamiya, a group allied with Hamas and Hezbollah.
In a statement, the military identified the target as Hussein Izzat Mohammad Atwi, who it said was involved in "planning and advancing terrorist activity from Lebanon into Israeli territory," and was working to attack Israeli forces along the northern border.
According to the Israeli military, Atwi also took part in launching rockets, coordinating militant infrastructure, attempting cross-border infiltrations, and planning attacks against Israelis abroad.
Lebanon's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said in a separate statement that the Israeli strike targeted a vehicle in the town of Baawerta, in the Aley district, and resulted in one fatality, according to the state-run National News Agency.
Israel has carried out dozens of strikes in Lebanon since a ceasefire with Hezbollah was agreed in November 2024, ending a 14-month cross-border fighting. The fighting was triggered by Israel's onslaught on Gaza following Hamas' surprise attack against Israel in October 2023.
