Jammu Police arrest 4, crack IPL betting racket

Jammu, Apr 1 (UNI): In a major breakthrough, the Jammu South Police on Tuesday cracked an IPL betting racket, arresting four accused persons and seizing cash and electronic gadgets from their possessions.

In a major crackdown on illegal betting, Police Station Gandhi Nagar activated a team and nabbed four individuals involved in unauthorised gambling.

Acting on reliable sources, the police raided a house at Shastri Nagar, Jammu, uncovering an ongoing betting operation.

During the raid, the police team found four individuals inside a room, where a live IPL match was being broadcast on an LED TV, and Rs 2 lakh in cash, eight mobile phones, one laptop, and five notebooks were found scattered on the bed.

The suspects failed to provide any satisfactory answers regarding the money and devices while attempting to flee. They were immediately apprehended by the police.

Arrested individuals were identified as Veer Singh Slathia alias Veer of Shastri Nagar, Karan Slathia alias Munna of Patolli Gurha Brahmana, Rajesh Slathia alias Rajesh of Patolli Gurha Brahmana, Adish Raina alias Adish of Dogra Ground, Gandhi Nagar.

A case under relevant sections was registered and an investigation was taken up, said the police.

The Chief General Manager, NABARD, Jammu, Bhallamudi Sridhar, informed that during the financial year 2024-25, the bank has sanctioned Rs 937.24 crore for 152 projects to Govt. of J&K UT, of which 21 projects pertains to Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Department amounting to Rs 101.09 crore, 92 projects amounting to Rs 529.39 crore for Rural Road connectivity.
