Karnataka BJP slams police brutality against party district president in Chitradurga

Chitradurga, Mar 15 (UNI) Karnataka BJP on Saturday condemned the alleged police brutality displayed by PSI Gadilingappa in Chitradurga against Hanumantegowda, the party’s Madhugiri district president.
The state party chief Vijayendra Yediyurappa condemned the incident by sharing a video on X, which shows PSI Gadilingappa slapping Hanumantegowda. The BJP leader retaliates with a slap, prompting the officer to strike him twice more and hurl abuses, all in the presence of three to four onlookers.
In a statement, he alleged that ever since the Congress came to power in Karnataka, incidents of murder, extortion, robbery, and rape have been continuously occurring, leading to a breakdown of law and order. He claimed that the safety of the common people was at risk due to the deteriorating situation.
Vijayendra further alleged that some lower-ranking police officers were resorting to excessive force and even physically assaulting ordinary citizens and responsible individuals.
"Officers who are unable to maintain peace in a civilised society are displaying their hooliganism in the middle of the night. Showing goonish behaviour before attacking a person, irrespective of their social standing, is a disgrace to the police department," he complained.
The Karnataka BJP Chief also accused certain officers of being emboldened by their political connections within the Congress government, asserting that they have developed an attitude of impunity and arrogance. It suggested that political motives could not be ruled out behind the Chitradurga incident, alleging that the police were being used as instruments by influential politicians, which was tarnishing the department’s reputation.
He demanded the immediate suspension of PSI Gadilingappa and warned that if the Director General of Police failed to act, the party would be compelled to join hands with citizens in protest against police excesses.
