Kolkata, May 17 (UNI) A major fire broke out in a multi-storied residential-cum-commercial building on the AJC Bose Road at Beckbagan in south Kolkata this afternoon.

Nearly half a dozen firefighting vehicles were pressed into service to douse the flames.

Flames were noticed outside the balcony on the 4th floor of the building from three AC machines, even as the firefighting personnel used a hose pipe to douse the flames.

It was not immediately known if any person was stuck up in the 7th-story flat. Many people could get out of the building immediately after the fire alarm sounded using the stairs of the building.

There was no immediate official version about the fire. An eyewitness said the fire was first noticed at around 3 PM, it was nearly brought under control. The reason for the fire was yet to be ascertained.
