Former MP Takam Sanjoy slams China’s renaming tactics in Arunachal

Itanagar, May 17 (UNI) Former Arunachal Pradesh MP Takam Sanjoy has strongly condemned China’s repeated attempts to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh, calling the moves “unethical, humiliating, and arbitrary.”
The senior Congress leader questioned the legitimacy of China’s actions and accused it of trying to destabilize long-standing diplomatic ties with India.
Sanjoy, whose official email was allegedly hacked by Chinese operatives during his tenure as a Lok Sabha MP, expressed outrage over the recent renaming of 27 places in the state by China. “These artificial nomenclatures have no connection to our genealogy or historical roots,” he asserted.
Highlighting India’s consistent efforts to empower indigenous communities, Sanjoy recounted key milestones such as the introduction of the Panchayati Raj system in 1967, the granting of Union Territory status in 1972, and full-fledged statehood in 1987 under the leadership of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
He questioned China’s role in the region, stating, “What law has China ever brought for the people of Arunachal?” and reaffirmed the region’s unwavering commitment to India.
The former parliamentarian also expressed sorrow over Arunachali tribes left in China-occupied Tibet, identifying groups such as the Loba, Mishimis, Nyishis, Tagins, and Bokars.
“We have proved ourselves as true citizens of India, and no external force can question our status,” Sanjoy said, urging China to refrain from further attempts to rename or claim Arunachal Pradesh.
