Maha: Agriculture minister apologises to farmers

Nashk, Apr 6 (UNI) After being slammed for making controversial statement that hurt sentiments of farmers in the state, Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate on Sunday apologised them.
Notably, two days ago, Minister Kokate had gone to the fields of farmers in Nashik district to inspect crops damaged due to unseasonal rains, at that time, he had asked the farmers, ‘What do you do with the money that comes after getting a loan waiver? Do you invest in agriculture or spend it on engagements and weddings.
Because of this remark, he came under fire from both farmers and the opposition alike.
Therefore, while interacting with media here today, Kokate apologized to farmers.
“I apologise if the honour of the farmers of Maharashtra was hurt by the statement made unintentionally and jokingly,” he said.
He also said that the government will provide compensation for the damaged crops and added that he prayed for prosperity and happiness of farmers.
