Maha: Cabinet gives nod to extend term of 16 temporary additional courts, 23 fast-track courts

Mumbai, Apr 22 (UNI) The decision to extend the term of 16 temporary additional courts and 23 fast-track courts in Maharashtra for another two years and to approve the expenditure for the same was taken in the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Considering the large number of pending cases in the secondary courts in the state, in order to reduce the pressure of pending cases on the original courts and to speed up the delivery of justice, additional courts and fast-track courts were established in the state for a period of five years as per the government decision dated August 18, 2017, as per the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission.
The term of these courts is expiring from the date of their functionalisation. It has been decided to extend their term for another two years from that date.
Considering the number of pending civil and criminal cases in these courts, the proposal to extend the term of these courts for two years was made by court. The High Court had submitted to the government and the decision to extend the deadline has been taken accordingly.
The fast-track courts that have been extended include the courts of Sangamner, Nevasa, Amravati, Beed, Khamgaon, Latur, Khed (Pune), Khed (Ratnagiri), Kalyan, Thane and the City Civil and Sessions Court Dindoshi (Mumbai) under the District Judge cadre.
The courts of Ahmednagar, Majalgaon, Bhandara, Nanded, Mukhed (Link Court), Paranda, Bhum, Panvel, Karad, Kalyan, Pusad under the Civil Judge Senior Level and Judicial Magistrate cadre include the courts of Ahmednagar, Majalgaon, Bhandara, Nanded, Mukhed (Link Court), Paranda, Bhum, Panvel, Karad, Kalyan, Pusad.
Additional courts include Achalpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nagpur, Nagpur (Motor Accident Claims Authority/MACT), Nanded, Niphad, Vasai, Parbhani, Mangaon, Karad, Vaduz, Pandharpur, Barshi, Thane (Motor Accident Claims Authority) under the District Judge cadre and Nagpur and Nashik courts under the Senior Civil Judge cadre.
The Cabinet has also approved the continuation of the posts of judges and their supporting staff required for these courts. An expenditure of Rs 78,46,77,898 was approved for these courts.
Another decision taken in the cabinet meeting was to give the fisheries sector the same status as agriculture in order to provide infrastructure facilities and concessions like the agriculture sector to the fishermen, fish farmers and fish cultivators in the state.
Except for the processing industry in the fisheries sector, other sectors will benefit from this decision.
To strengthen the rural economy of Maharashtra and increase fish production, fishermen, fish farmers and fish cultivators in the state will be provided with infrastructure facilities and concessions like the agriculture sector.
Maharashtra is an agricultural state, and the rural economy is based on sectors like agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries and fruit and vegetable production.
In particular, the importance of fisheries, which earns foreign exchange for the country and meets the need for protein-rich food, is increasing day by day.
The state has a long coastline of 720 kilometres. Also, in the groundwater area, there are four lakh hectares of water resources including reservoirs of the Irrigation Department, lakes, Zilla Parishad lakes and Malgujari lakes. There are also more than 2.5 lakh agricultural ponds.
Due to this, the state is now emphasising scientific fish farming rather than traditional fishing, and the use of modern technologies like fish seed storage and cage culture has started increasing in the state.
Despite being similar to the agriculture sector, fishermen and fish farmers were not getting facilities like electricity subsidy, loans, insurance and subsidies on equipment due to lack of agriculture status. However, states like Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Karnataka have given agriculture status to this sector, which has led to a significant increase in their fish production.
The state government has taken important steps in this context, and fish farmers will get concessions like electricity supply at agricultural rates, Kisan Credit Card, bank loan facility, insurance cover at low rates and benefits of solar energy scheme.
